The woody area of Schaluinenhoeve is perfect for a long walk through the nature. The reception provides enough information for walking routes. If you rather stay near the hotel, you can take a nice walk through the garden. Several examples of well know walking routes are:
Walking route: Enclavebelevingsroute
The ‘Enclavebelevingsroute’ (Enclave Experience Route) is an exceptional walk of 7 km (extendable to 10.5 km) through the ‘World Capital of Enclaves’: Baarle-Hertog-Nassau! “The biggest jigsaw puzzle in the world? Baarle-Hertog-Nassau! The intriguing twin village has no less than thirty enclaves, parts of the country completely surrounded by the territory of a neighboring country. With bizarre consequences, such as a border that runs straight through a … front door! During this walk in and around the center you will hop between Belgium and the Netherlands dozens of times. Walking route: Dodendraadpad
In 3 km, you pass some spots that relate to WW1. For example, you pass a ware monument and an authentic piece of ‘The wire of death’.
Walking route: Verzetspad
This 4 km route takes you to some interesting location in and around Baarle-Nassau. Think of the old and new city hall, the old train station of the Bels Lijntje and several military location. Along the way, you find information that offer recorded stories with information about that location by scanning QR-codes.
Walking route: Wandelknooppunten
In the Baarle-Nassau area, you can find the walking routes ‘Wandelknooppunten’. These are routes varying from 3 to 11 km, along the river ’t Merkske’. The routes lead you to stunning nature surrounding the river. Because of the mudy area, boots are recommended. You can download the routes here (Dutch).
