Parts of Dutch Baarle-Nassau and Belgian Baarle-Hertog surround each other, creating a mix of The Netherlands and Belgium. The border between the two countries runs right through the village, across the streets and even through houses and stores. For this reason, Baarle-Nassau and -Hertog have always been popular spots for tourists and there are plenty of catering establishments to choose from. consists of no less than 30 enclaves. This means that parts of territory are completely surrounded by another country&#8217;s land. With 22 Belgian and 8 Dutch enclaves, it creates a situation you won&#8217;t find anywhere else. For example, you may find yourself enjoying a drink together on a terrace while you are both in a different country.<\/p><p>The situation originated around 1190, when the then rulers of the provinces of The Netherlands and Belgium exchanged pieces of land as negotiation. Various territories were exchanged, creating a situation where pieces of land were surrounded by another country. Since the enclave situation arose, several attempts have been made to resolve it, without success. Therefore, the situation today remains as it was at the time, and that is what makes Baarle-Nassau and -Hertog so special and class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Schaluinenhoeve comes from the name Schaluinen, which is also the name of the street where Schaluinenhoeve is located.<\/p>\n<p>Where the name Schaluinen comes from is not entirely certain, as it may have several causes. What is certain is that Schaluinenhoeve has a rich history. The oldest name known is Scalheynen (1408) and Schalluynenbeemt has also surfaced from 1544.<\/p>\n<p>Last century, the Klaassen family ran a large camping farm on the property, then called &#8216;t Schaluintje. In 1974, the previous owner took over, after which it was renamed Schaluinenhoeve. At the time, there was a deer farm where the hotel is now.
